Shaggy Dog

by Sid

Today’s been a really slow day honestly. I slept really late after a whole week since I knew I was going to get a long weekend! I also also had my first afternoon nap of the month so that made me feel better 😊

Initial inference

I mostly feel this word is a noun just because of the fact that its two parts—shaggy-dog are an adjective and a noun, respectively, but it very well might also be an adjective to describe something or someone. Based on these two parts, my best guess on the meaning of this word is:

Really long and exaggerated.

Definition and Pronunciation

adjective | shag-ee-DAWG

  1. of, relating to, or being a long-drawn-out circumstantial story concerning an inconsequential happening that impresses the teller as humorous or interesting but the hearer as boring and pointless; also : of, relating to, or being a similar humorous story whose humor lies in the pointlessness or irrelevance of the plot or punch line

Example usage

I would use the word in a sentence as follows:

Every time I talk to Jessica she only has lame and meaningless shaggy-dog stories to tell…I wish I didn’t always show up at the wrong time!
