Xeriscape

by Sid

It’s the end of the week and what did I do this weekend? I worked on some code, continued binging a TV show called “Eureka” on Amazon Prime Video, and…what else, you ask? Nothing else really :😆

Table of contents:

Initial inference

Looking at the ending, “scape,” this word is a noun. When we break it down into xeri-scape, we can deduce from the root of the word that this could mean:

Depriving or saving of water, i.e., making dry.

Definition and Pronunciation

noun | ZEER-uh-skayp

  1. a landscaping method developed especially for arid and semiarid climates that utilizes water-conserving techniques (such as the use of drought-tolerant plants, mulch, and efficient irrigation)

Example usage

I would use the word in a sentence as follows:

In the past when some regions of the state of Maharashtra were facing droughts, maybe the technique of xeriscape could have helped farmers save their crops.
